Cowgirls Roll Past Colorado Christian, 62-33 [VIDEOS]
Taylor Rusk tied her career high with 15 points, and the Wyoming Cowgirls cruised past Colorado Christian 62-33 Tuesday in Laramie.
Wyoming (7-3) won its third straight in their final non-conference game at home. Their next home contest isn’t until Jan. 3 in Mountain West play.
Rusk went 6-12 from the field and made three 3-pointers. She added five rebounds with three assists and three steals. Liv Roberts contributed nine points and five rebounds, while Marleah Campbell and Bailee Cotton added eight points each.
The Cowgirls shot 50 percent in the first half and finished at 41 percent for the game. They had 22 assists on 27 field goals with only two turnovers. Those came in the final 3:20 of the game.
Colorado Christian (3-6) was led by Haley Shaner with 13 points. Former Laramie High School player Savannah Cox had two points and one rebound in 15 minutes of action. This was an exhibition for the Cougars. They shot 27 percent from the floor.
All five Cowgirls starters scored in the first five minutes of action, as UW jumped out to a 12-5 lead. They got their first double figure lead on a basket from Cotton with just over two minutes left in the first. After a 20-11 lead at the quarter, Wyoming utilized a 9-2 run to start the second. The Cowgirls held the Cougars to eight points in the period and had a 41-19 advantage at halftime.
Colorado Christian out-scored UW 10-8 in the third, as the Cowgirls shot just 4-19 (21%) from the field. Wyoming used another 9-2 run at the start of the fourth and closed out the easy victory by allowing only four points in the final quarter.
After a break for final exams at the University of Wyoming, the Cowgirls will finish non-conference play with a game at No. 14 Duke (8-2) on Thursday, Dec. 21. Tip-off is at 5 p.m., Mountain Time.
