The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is warning about the possibility of significant to heavy snow in the area starting on Friday night and into Saturday.

However, generally pleasant weather is in the forecast for today (Wednesday) and tomorrow.

The service had the following statement posted on its website early Wednesday morning:

"Nice weather expected across southeast Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle Wednesday and Thursday. Highs Wednesday afternoon could hit 60 for some areas in the Panhandle with 40s west of the Laramie Range and 50s east in southeast Wyoming. The weather changes Friday as a strong low pressure system approaches from the northwest. Expect increasing clouds and strong winds through the day Friday. Our wind prone areas (Arlington and south Laramie Range) on Interstate 80 may see wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Those driving light load semis, light-weight/high profile vehicles or towing camper trailers may want to take a southern route Friday if traveling across the Rockies. Snow is expected to develop across northern Wyoming Friday afternoon and spread southeast Friday evening into Saturday. Confidence is growing that a widespread snow event is going to take place through Saturday. Significant snow accumulations are possible leading to widespread travel impacts. Behind the low, very cold temperatures are expected Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned to our later updates in the forecast if planning travel or outdoor activities Friday night into Saturday. We'll keep you informed!"
