Well, if you need something to wake you up early on a Wednesday, there's nothing like seeing a young black bear roaming around the neighborhood.

The local Wyoming Game and Fish office in Casper got the call around 6:30 in the morning that a smallish black bear had been seen roaming around the east side of town.

The office has received several other calls since then.

The the department, along with the Casper Police Department, has been monitoring the east side of the city throughout Monday, spokeswoman Janet Milek said.

The department's officers have set a trap in the neighborhood where the bear was last seen, Milek said.

Bears sometimes wander down from Casper Mountain at this time of year, she said.

The bear was a yearling, kicked out of the den because new cubs have arrived and it's time for last years offspring to leave the nest, she said.

Milek urged people to call 911 if they see the bear and also urged people to not approach it.

The bear, sex unknown, is just trying to find a new environment. She says the goal is tranquilize him and remove him to one that is more suitable.

"This guy is so scared," Milek said.

"He's just trying to get out of here," she said. "He's running and hiding."
