Ask the City: Trash Removal

Question:

Why would the city trash collectors replace empty bins in the middle of alleyways blocking all entrances and exits? Many people park in their alleys and this is highly inconsiderate.

Answer:

“The ice and snow causes uneven ground. When a cart is lifted, dumped and set back down it may not set evenly on the ice and snow and tip over. If this happens when the driver is still there they should get out and set them up. However, once the driver leaves the area a slight breeze can tip over an uneven cart.  When this occurs, alerting the City by calling Solid Waste at telephone number 721-5279, Public Works at telephone number 721-5230 or the City Manager’s Office at  telephone number 721-5226 will allow staff to be directed to correct the situation, as happened today.”
