LARAMIE--- Rain may have disrupted the original time but the 31st annual Ag Day BBQ has been rescheduled to Oct. 19, the day the University of Wyoming Cowboys play football against the Colorado State Rams.

Students representing more than 30 clubs and organizations from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) will be serving BBQ from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Tailgate Park in conjunction with the Cowboy Joe Club.

The BBQ raises funds for a scholarship.  Lara Allnut, a junior studying Ag Business, from Walden, Colo. won this school year.

“Everyone shows their appreciation by gathering for a tailgate before the game” Allnut said “It’s an excellent way to celebrate the College of Agriculture and its many Registered Student Organizations (RSO)—by enjoying good food and company!”

The Food Science Club prepares the meal.    The 27 members put in at least 60 hours of safe food preparation of the 180 pounds of smoked beef and pork, and 75 pounds of lamb.

The club has used funds from working previous years’ BBQ to attend the Chicago Processing Convention, John Morrell Pork Processing Plant in Sioux Falls, and Calico Skies Vineyard and Winery in Iowa.

Students from the clubs and organizations work two-hour shifts and in return the clubs they represent earn a percentage of the total earnings.  Funding from working the Ag Day BBQ has been used in some cases to pay for competitions.

“Money from the BBQ is extremely valuable because we use it to travel to the International Society for Range Management meeting,”  said Mandy O’Donnell a senior member of the Range Club, from Spring Creek, Nev.   “It is an opportunity to network with current professionals and discuss relevant studies taking place.”

Donors also contribute a great deal to the success of the Ag Day BBQ.  The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources would like to extend its gratitude to these businesses and individuals: First Interstate Bank, Bank of Commerce, Platte Valley Bank, Sundance State Bank, Farm Credit Services of America, Wells Fargo Bank, Capital West Bank, ANB Bank, Wyoming State Bank, Wyoming Livestock Roundup, Polo Ranch Company, Richard and Dorothy Jean Davis, John Hines, Northern Feed & Bean, Phillips & Co., Wyoming Stock Growers Association, Wyoming Beef Council, Davis Land & Livestock Co, Fusa Insurance Agency, Wyoming Pork Producers, Wyoming Department of Agriculture, Tom and Ann Davidson, Rod and Maxine Chisholm, Levin Strategic Resources, LLC, Wyoming Wool Growers, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, The Butcher Block, The Tack Room, Honken Construction, Albany County Cow-belles, Darnall Feedlot, Wyoming State Fair, Sinclair Oil, Ranchway Feeds, Rocky Mountain Shirt Works, The Boardwalk, The Boot Barn, Northridge Discount Liquor, Smith Beverages, Brown and Gold Retail, Pepsi, Walmart, and Albertson’s
