7 Grizzly Bears Captured in Yellowstone National Park
Capture and release efforts in Yellowstone Nation Park still haven't turn up any new results in the case of a Michigan man who was attacked and killed by a grizzly bear inside the park on August 25th. Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Dan Wenk said that seven grizzly bears were captured near the scene where John Wallace was attacked and killed. However, none of the captured bears can be linked definitively to the attack.
Yellowstone officials have been conducting DNA analysis on collected evidence from the parks Hayden Valley. Investigators have determined that there were approximately seven bears in the area around the time of the attack but it's uncertain if the seven captured bears are linked to the attack.
Officials have been capturing bears and fitting them with radio collars and releasing them back into the wild and can be recaptured if new evidence deems necessary.
In other grizzly bear news the Wyoming Game and Fish has announced that they trapped and relocated a young female grizzly that had been damaging an apple orchard near Wapiti just west of Cody, WY.
The female grizzly was relocated on Friday to an area about 18 miles west of Flagg Ranch which is situated between Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. The new location is an area that is known to occupy other grizzly bears.
