If there's one thing we love even more than sports here in Wyoming, it's gambling. 18 percent of residents in the Cowboy State have action riding on the NCAA Tournament this year, according to a survey from the American Gaming Association.

They estimate 47 million Americans are participating in a March Madness pool, roughly 19 percent of the adult population. Of those, 7 percent of fans will wager on the games with bookies, friends, or at casinos and sports gambling sites.

The collective level of March Madness in the Cowboy State pales in comparison to other states in the region. In Utah and Kansas, an estimated 26 percent of adults will participate in an NCAA Tournament pool. 24 percent of residents in Colorado and Nebraska will play. Kentucky has the highest participation rate in the nation at 31 percent.

In states where sports gambling is legal, the percentage of people participating in tournament pools is generally lower. New Mexico regulates gaming on sporting events and has the lowest rate of March Madness pools in the country, with only 12 percent of the population betting on brackets.
