The Cowgirl basketball team beat the Idaho Vandals in Laramie on Saturday 68-55.

Chaundra Sewell had the first start of her career as Head Coach Joe Legerski announced Saturday that junior guard Kristen Scheffler will not compete the rest of the season due to injury.  Sewell played well in the role of a starter and led the Cowgirls with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and a block while hitting 9 of 11 from the foul line and 2 of 3 from beyond the arc.  Senior guard Aubrey Vandiver recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds which was somehow a quiet night for her. Vandiver talked about Sewell's play against Idaho:

"It's just really important that we have another third person that can really help us and she just stepped up really well tonight and hopefully that continues cause if we can get a night like that out of Chaundra every night I think we'll win a lot of games."

The first half saw two ties and eight lead changes.  The Cowgirls began to pull away with five minutes left in the half when senior forward Hillary Carlson made a layup and got fouled by Idaho's Rachele Kloke who then committed a technical foul.  Carlson made all three free throws to earn the Cowgirls five quick points and a ten point advantage.  At the half Wyoming led 33-21.

Vandiver started the second half going 3 for 3 from the 3 point line to give the Cowgirls their biggest lead of the night at 44-28.  However the Vandals would not let the Cowgirls run away with the win and with less then six minutes remaining pulled within six points on a layup and foul shot from senior guard Derisa Taleni.   Senior forward Jade Kennedy hit a big 3, Vandiver made of couple of key buckets and Sewell hit 6 free throws in the remaining minutes to secure the victory for Wyoming.  Idaho was led by Taleni with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals. The Cowgirls are now 5-2 and will have a week of practice before playing Westminster on Saturday, December 11 in Laramie at 2:00 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
