Hot shooting propelled the Colorado Buffaloes to a 70-58 victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls in the Third Round of the WNIT Thursday night at the Arena-Auditorium.

The Buffs (18-15) shot 50 percent from the field and 3-point range, as they went 25-of-50 from the floor and 8-of-16 on 3's.  CU was led by Brittany Spears with 23 points.  Chucky Jeffery had 16 and Brittany Wilson added 15 points.

Meanwhile, the Cowgirls (24-9) could not match that.  They struggled all game long and shot only 31.5 percent from the field and just 19 percent from 3-point range.  Hillary Carlson produced a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver added 15 points.  Only three other Cowgirls scored during the game.

An 8-0 spurt near the end of the first half helped CU build a 39-28 lead at half.  Spears hit three 3's and scored 19 in the first half, while Wilson added 11.  The Buffs improved to 17-0 when leading at halftime this season, while Wyoming never earned a victory when they trailed at half this season.

On three separate occasions, the Cowgirls pulled within three points midway through the second half, but the Buffs weathered the charge with baskets from Jeffery, Spears and Wilson.  UW also missed 4-of-5 free throws in that stretch.

At one point in the second half the Cowgirls went over six minutes without a field goal.

CU closed it out by going 7-of-9 at the foul line in the final 2:05.

The loss closed out another successful Cowgirl basketball season.  The four seniors averaged 20+ wins in each of their seasons.
