The public will be able to drive into Yellowstone National Park from the south entrance beginning Friday morning, as long as mother nature cooperates.

Roads from the south entrance to West Thumb, Lake Village to West Thumb, West Thumb to Old Faithful via Craig Pass and Tower Junction to Tower Fall will open at 8 a.m. Friday.

Most park roads have reopened for the season, as have the other park entrances.

The only stretch of road that remains closed lies between Tower Fall and Canyon, via Dunraven Pass. That road is set to open for the season May 24.

Although the roads are reopening, weather conditions are still to be reckoned with this early in the season. In fact, the road through Sylvan Pass near the east gate was closed earlier this week due to heavy snow.

Current road conditions in Yellowstone can be found at the park website, at visitor centers or by calling 307-344-2117.
