Like many others in the Laramie community, WyoTech was caught a little off guard when the Laramie River reached flood levels last summer, so this year they made sure they are well prepared. With the Laramie River currently above the flood stage of 5 feet, students at WyoTech are spending time before, in between and after classes filling sandbags.

Director of Student Services Kyle Morris says they wanted to be more proactive than they were last year. So, WyoTech is in the process of filling 10,000 of its own sandbags which they obtained to protect their at risk properties and then distribute to other areas in Laramie as needed.

Since the sandbagging began at the beginning of the week, over 4,000 have been filled by students who sign up to work shifts as their class schedule allows. With many students coming in on their own time, Morris says they are almost an around the clock operation.
