With a nick name like "The Cowboy State," then you know Wyoming is a resilient state that is capable of holding its own in the face of a rough economy. In August, Wyoming's unemployment rate rose to 5.8%. That is still a good number compared to the Nation's unemployment rate of 9.1%.

In July Wyoming's unemployment rate was 5.7%. Overall, one tenth of a percentage isn't really anything to fret about and the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services also stated that it's not uncommon to see modest unemployment increases during the month of August. Also, seasonally adjusted employment decreased by approximately 750 people from July to August.

Lincoln and Big Horn Counties both saw the highest unemployment rates in the state at 6.9%. Fremont County was not far behind with an unemployment rate of 6.7%.  The two counties seeing the lowest rates were Sublette County at 3.2% and Campbell County at 4.4%. Other counties in Wyoming that saw unemployment rates below 5% were Albany, Niobrara, Sweetwater, Converse and Teton Counties.
