Troopers and dispatchers of the Wyoming Highway Patrol had a busy holiday weekend as the Patrol joined other law enforcement agencies across the state in targeting drunken drivers.

From July 1 through July 4, troopers conducted 2,380 traffic stops statewide. As a result of those stops, 18 impaired drivers were arrested.

According to a Patrol news release, 110 crashes were investigated in that period including a crash that killed two people. The Patrol says 25 of those 110 crashes involved injury while 84 involved property damage only. Troopers also assisted 290 motorists over the weekend.

Troopers focused on keeping travelers safe mainly by identifying impaired drivers, but also by looking for people who were speeding, those not using seat belts and child restraints and other moving violations that impact highway safety.

The Patrol says 3,697 events were dispatched over the holiday weekend.
