With the Legislative Session underway, Wyoming may possibly be undergoing dramatic economic changes. During Governor Mead's State of The State address delivered earlier this week Mead expressed his plans in supporting the allocation of $14.5 in general funds for the recruitment of multiple data centers throughout Wyoming.

Governor Mead's hopes are to take advantage of cutting edge technology. By bringing multiple data centers into the state, Wyoming can stay competitive on a national and a global level. In the State of The State Address Governor Mead also said he supports using technology to its maximum advantage to improve state government, business climate as well as to enrich personal and work lives and to improve the quality of patient health care.

The Governor's plan may come to fruition in the near future, at least in Laramie. With the help of Albany Counties Comprehensive Plan, an approved zone change and a 160-acre parcel of land one mile north of Laramie a data center may be coming sometime soon.

Verizon Communications Inc. has showed interest in the land north of Laramie as a possible location for a mega data center that could create up to two hundred jobs. Verizon stated it is only looking into purchasing the property and has not committed to anything as of now. Verizon's time line in dealing with the purchase and moving forward with plans is still some what uncertain.

If Verizon decides to bring a mega data center to Laramie it would create approximately one hundred twenty highly technical computer-programming jobs and around eighty information technology and ground maintenance positions.

Verizon Communications is a global broadband and telecommunications company. It is headquartered out of New York City and has over two hundred fifty data centers world wide.
