Wyoming Man Killed, Teen Injured in Head-on Crash Near Wright
A man is dead and a teenager was hospitalized following a crash early Monday west of Wright.
A man driving a 2003 Mazda Protege passenger car was eastbound on Wyoming Highway 387 when, shortly after 5 a.m. about 28 miles west of Wright, a westbound 2000 Buick Park Avenue crossed the centerline and hit the Mazda head-on.
The Mazda caught fire after the crash. The driver died at the scene.
The man who was killed died as a result of the crash itself -- not the fire -- according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
After the crash, a teenage boy who had been driving the Buick was taken by ambulance to Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette. The driver was wearing his seat belt during the crash and was treated for unspecified injuries.
The investigation continues. Fatigued driving is suspected as the contributing factor in the crash.
Due to the ongoing investigation, the teen's name is not being released, per Wyoming Highway Patrol policy.
Investigating troopers believe they know who was killed in the crash, but his identity has not been confirmed pending a DNA analysis.
No charges have been filed as of Tuesday evening.
The man who was killed is the second person to die in a crash on Wyoming highways in 2017. The same time period in 2016 also saw two deaths.
