Wyoming Makes Key Plays in Win Over the Falcons [VIDEOS]
The Wyoming Cowboys held off an Air Force rally Saturday and beat the Falcons, 35-26, at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.
The Pokes excelled in two key areas. They ran for 189 yards against an Air Force defense that came in allowing only 53 yards. UW also forced four Falcons’ turnovers. One of those was a fumble returned for a touchdown by D.J May.
Two of the picks came from sophomore Antonio Hull. He was beaten in the third quarter for a 75-yard TD pass by Air Force, but said he stayed with it to get the key interceptions.
Wyoming had a 28-6 lead, but the Falcons came back and got within 28-26 with 3:31 left. The defense stuffed a 2-point conversion attempt, and then senior Lucas Wacha recovered an onside kick. Cowboys’ quarterback Josh Allen converted a key third down that led to the clinching UW touchdown.
Allen described the decision behind the play call, and how it developed. He also knew his running was key to the victory, and how it’s nice to be 2-0 in the Mountain West.
The Pokes have beaten their two Front Range rivals in back-to-back weeks. Wacha boasted about the accomplishment, but said it’s time to move on to the Wolfpack after their bye week.
The Cowboys return to action Oct. 22 at Nevada. The start time for that game has not been released yet.
