Wyoming Lands in Third Place at Air Force Quad-Meet

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team completed competition in a quad-meet at Air Force on Saturday inside Cadet Natatorium. The Cowgirls finished third among four teams, while the Cowboys took third in a field of three.
Wyoming only swam a small portion of its roster over the course of the two-day meet. But there were still plenty of notable performances.
The men’s 200-yard medley relay began the meet with a bang. The collection of Kody Hollingsworth, Luke Slabber, Gavin Smith and Quinn Cynor clocked in at 1:32.31.
Cynor and Hollingsworth went 1-2 in the 100-yard backstroke. Cynor checked in at 50.77 and Hollingsworth recorded a time of 51.39.
Hollingsworth also touched second in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. He clocked in at 21.27 in the 50 and 46.43 in the 100.
Natalie Six and Gabriella Haigler claimed the top two spots in the 1-meter event, as well. Six took first with a final tally of 268.35, while Haigler accumulated 262.40 points. Haigler added a runner-up finish in the 3-meter event, registering a score of 243.25.
Payton Lee logged a second-place finish in the 1-meter competition, logging 288 points. Lee also finished second in 3-meter with a score of 293.80.
Christian Louie placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.67. Collin Davis checked in at No. 2 in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:43.92. Gavin Smith placed second in the 500-yard freestyle, boasting a time of 4:44.18, and Alicia Gonzalez rounded out Wyoming’s top-two finishes, taking runner-up in platform with a final tally of 194.10 points.
Wyoming remains on the road next weekend. The men’s and women’s teams travel to Colorado Mines for a dual meet Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. inside CSM Natatorium.
