Wyoming High School Football Rankings: September 6, 2017 [POLL]
The big matchups between the top teams, according to the coaches/media, are happening early in the 2017 season.
There are 4 undefeated teams in 4A, and they all play each other this weekend. Unanimous #2 Natrona at unanimous #1 Sheridan, and #4 Thunder Basin at #3 Cheyenne East. It doesn't get much bigger then that. 2 teams will prove themselves this weekend, while the others will find out there's more work to do. Kelly Walsh maintains the #5 spot, and will play at Cheyenne South this weekend. The rankings are unchanged from last week.
It was a long road trip in the 2015 3A semi-finals, and this year, the trip is being returned. #1 Star Valley hosts #3 Torrington in what will be the first regular season meeting between the 2 teams. The Braves and Trail Blazers have played a total of 11 times before this year, with all of them in the playoffs. Green River is still the #2 team heading into their matchup vs. Riverton. Douglas moves up one spot to #4, and will entertain Hot Springs, South Dakota. Buffalo is in the rankings at #5. The Bison will visit a Worland team that like them, is hoping to start the season 2-0.
2A will have its share of entertaining games this week. Glenrock is the unanimous #1, after their win at #2 Greybull last week. The Buffalos don't drop in the rankings, and need to regroup to deal with a Thermopolis squad that didn't get scored on last week. Newcastle is up to #3 and should be in for a backyard brawl, when they visit 1A Upton-Sundance. Pinedale cracks the top 5 at #4 and has to share it with Mountain View. The Wranglers will try this week, to do what the Buffalos couldn't do, and that's beat 1A Cokeville. Meanwhile, MV will have their hands full at Big Piney.
There was a little bit of change in the latest 1A rankings. Cokeville is still #1, and should get a challenge at home vs. 3A Pinedale. Southeast is now in at #5 and the Cyclones have a huge game at home vs. #2 Big Horn this week. There's no way that the Rams are looking ahead to next week's clash with #3 Pine Bluffs. Upton-Sundance is still ranked #4, and as mentioned, should get a good challenge at home vs. 2A Newcastle.
6-Man starts conference play in week 2. Unanimous #1 Kaycee hosts unranked H.E.M., while unanimous #2 Farson-Eden visits #4 Burlington. #3 Little Snake River will have their home opener vs. Riverside, while #5 Meeteetse will entertain Dubois.
