CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Officials say new protocols for dealing with concussions suffered by student-athletes in junior and senior high school sports in Wyoming appear to be working well.

In 2011, the state Legislature mandated that all 48 school districts in the state adopt concussion policies.

Ted Schroeder, of the Wyoming Coaches Association, said he hasn't heard any concerns or problems from coaches about concussion policies.

The Wyoming High School Athletics Association helps educate coaches, parents and others about concussions.

WHSAA commissioner Ron Laird says it's important for parents to be educated about concussions because students may get injuries outside of school sports.

And Laird says improvement also is needed on communicating to teachers about students with concussions because head injuries can impair classroom performance.
