The state of Wyoming has a new State Health Officer. Dr. Wendy Braund with the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration will be taking over the position from Dr. Brent Sherard on October 10th.

Dr. Wendy Braund will be the the new State Health Officer and according to the Wyoming Department of Health she will also serve as senior administrator of Wyoming's new Public Health Division. The State Health Officer position was previously filled by Dr. Sherard who left in April to serve as Governor Mead's health policy advisor.

The Casper Star Tribune reports that Braund currently heads the Public Health Branch of a division within the Health Resources and Services Administration in Rockville, MD. The officer position oversees the Wyoming Office of Emergency Services, immunization policies and the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program. She will also investigate diseases, and public spaces with health issues as well as establish quarantines.
