Wyoming Cross Country Sweeps Team Titles At Montana State
The University of Wyoming cross country teams both won the team crown at the Montana State Invite in Bozeman last Saturday.
Cross Country
The victories by the Cowboys and Cowgirls marked the second straight meet that UW has swept the team titles.
Junior Amos Bowen won the men's five mile race by five seconds with a time of 25:01. That helped the UW men finish with a team score of 32 points, which were 15 better than the host Bobcats.
Senior Aaron Derner and junior Dylan Morin also finished in the top ten. They were sixth and ninth, respectively.
Senior Holly Page was runner-up in the women's three mile race. Her time was 17:08. The UW women scored 31 points and barely edged out second place Utah by two.
Freshman Kerry White was second, just in front of teammate Audra DeStefano. Ali Walker was the fourth Cowgirl in the top ten in tenth place.
Volleyball
The Wyoming Cowgirls went 2-1 at the Hampton Inn and Suite UNC Classic in Greeley, Colorado last weekend.
The Cowgirls defeated UC Davis last Friday in four sets. They swept Hampton in three sets on Saturday, but lost that night to the host UNC Bears in four sets.
Juniors Bridget Shanahan and Kayla Henderson were named to the All-Tournament team.
Senior Erin Kirby became the all-time leader in blocks in school history.
Soccer
On the road at Northern Colorado last Friday night, the Cowgirls played to a scoreless draw, 0-0, after two overtime periods.
Wyoming had 16 shots, which included nine on goal. The Cowgirls are now 2-5-1 on the season.
Tennis
In their first action of the fall, the Cowgirls played at the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah. Sophomore Dorottya Jonas and senior Christa Gecheva advanced to the third day in the singles back draw.
Jonas lost 6-3, 6-4 in the back draw final to Savannah Ware of BYU. Ware had defeated Gecheva in the semis 6-2, 6-4.
