The Wyoming Cowgirls won their second exhibition game Friday night, as they grinded out a 61-46 victory over the Western State Mountaineers in a very physical game at the Arena-Auditorium.  Four Cowgirls scored in double figures, and Wyoming held Western State to 26 percent shooting from the field.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mileto led the way with 14 points, while Sophmore Kaylee Hoffman provided a spark off the bench with 13 points.  Kayla Woodward and Ashley Sickles added 10 points apiece.  Chaundra Sewell followed with eight points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Western State's Nikki Trujillo scored a game-high 19 points in defeat.

The Cowgirls jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, as the Mountaineers didn't a point for the first 5:26 of the game and finally got their first field goal with 13:20 left in the first half.

Still, it took a technical foul called on Cowgirl Coach Joe Legerski to really ignite his squad.  After the technical UW responded 7-0 spurt to end the first half and led 36-21 at the break.  Coach Legerski said of the situation,

That's my second technical in nine years.  I always look at things, that's a rarity.  I always tell the players, you need to keep composure, and that applies to me, as well.    Yet, the team responded, and our fans responded.

Hoffman scored eight of her 13 points in the first six minutes of the second half, as the Cowgirls increased the lead to 49-30 with 14:15 left.  Western State didn't go away and cut the deficit to 12, at 54-42 with six minutes remaining, but the Cowgirl defense held the Mountaineers to four points down the stretch.

Wyoming shot 45.7 percent from the field and out-rebounded Western State 39-37.  However, 16 Cowgirl turnovers let the Mountaineers hand around.

This physical game featured only 38 total fouls, but numerous jump balls.

The Cowgirls will open the regular season at home next Friday night, as they host Utah State at the AA.  Game time is 7 pm.  You can listen to Cowgirl basketball on KOWB with coverage starting at 6:30 pm.
