Wyoming Congressional Delegation on Kavanaugh Controversy
The confirmation hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh who has been nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court, have taken an interesting turn. And we asked our congressional delegation their views of the latest developments.
Kavanaugh has been accused of an attempted sexual assault when he was in prep school iin the early 80's, and the accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, may testify at the hearings next week.
Congresswoman Liz Cheney had this to say. “Dr. Ford has been offered numerous options to testify, including in private. Senate Judiciary Committee staff have already conducted interviews, under penalty of perjury, with Judge Kavanaugh and at least four other individuals regarding this matter. After delaying release of Dr. Ford’s letter for purely political reasons, Judiciary Committee Democrats have refused to participate in interviews about this matter, including with Judge Kavanaugh. The latest ludicrous demands by lawyers for Dr. Ford, including refusal to be questioned by attorneys and insistence that Judge Kavanaugh testify first, are confirmation that the Democrats are not interested in the facts. They are doing all they can to delay the process and smear Judge Kavanaugh in order to keep a conservative off the Supreme Court. Senate Republicans must put a stop to this. Judge Kavanaugh is a man of the highest integrity, honor and character. He is exactly the kind of jurist we need on the Supreme Court. The Committee should vote on Judge Kavanaugh's Nomination immediately."
Senator John Barrasso's office sent us this statement. "Senator Barrasso believes Dr. Ford should be given a fair and dignified opportunity to testify about a very serious allegation. Because Democrats chose to withhold this account throughout the nomination and until after public hearings concluded, Judge Kavanaugh deserves the same opportunity to respond. He supports the Senate Judiciary Committee’s decision to consider the allegation prior to a vote."
And finally, we got this response from Senator Mike Enzi's office. "The Senate Judiciary Committee is still reviewing the nomination and Senator Enzi is closely following these deliberations."
