Members of the Laramie Film Society presented some $6,000 in cash and checks to the manager of the Wyo Theatre on Monday night to bring back the Spring Film Series. The first film, “Martha Marcy May Marlene” will show on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.

After the Fall Film Series was cancelled due to profit loss, owners Karen and Marshall Smith of Rocky Mountain Resort Cinemas, said they needed to sell 500 tickets in advance before they would move forward with a spring series. The fact that the fall series was cancelled contributed to the success of the advanced ticket sales for the spring series according to Robert Roten from the Laramie Film Society because “people knew the threat of cancelling this series was real.”

With advanced ticket sales continuing through this week, Roten projects that over 1,500 tickets will have been sold. He attributes the success to support from local businesses that sold tickets and support from movie lovers in Albany County.

Tickets are still being sold at UniWyo Federal Credit Union through Friday, after that they will need to be purchased at the Wyo Theatre box office. You can see the full lineup of films by clicking here and watch the trailer for “Martha Marcy May Marlene” below.
