CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Republican Party says it is endorsing Gun Appreciation Day on Saturday.

The nationwide event encourages people to visit their local gun ranges, gun stores and sporting goods stores. Meanwhile, others are calling for more restrictions on and oversight of gun ownership after the Newtown, Conn., school massacre.

The shooter killed 20 children and six educators at the Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14 before killing himself.

Wyoming Republican Party Chairwoman Tammy Hooper says Wyoming Republicans have shown strong support for the right to keep and bear arms.

She says co-sponsoring Gun Appreciation Day is another way of showing that support.
