When you go to get a Wyoming driver license or renew it, you will now need to bring in a document to prove who you are, two that say you live in Wyoming and your Social Security card. Wyoming is complying with federal security regulations which all states must operate under by 2013.

As far as verifying your identity, your current license will not suffice because it was not issued under the new security requirements. Acceptable documents include:

  • certified birth certificate
  • valid U.S. passport
  • consular report of birth abroad
  • certificate of citizenship
  • certificate of naturalization

Once you have a license issued from a compliant state it will become acceptable proof of identity. Of course, you will still need to provide two documents to verify legal residence in Wyoming. Acceptable documents to prove Wyoming residency include:

  • Wyoming vehicle title or registration
  • lease agreement or rent receipt
  • utility bill
  • proof of Wyoming voter registration
  • property tax assessment
  • income tax return
  • pay stub
  • Wyoming resident hunting or fishing license

Lastly, you will need to verify your social security number, which is best done by bringing your Social Security card. If you don't have it, you will need some other acceptable Social Security document to verify that your number matches your name.

It should be noted that all documents presented will be examined and scanned, then the originals will be returned to you, unless they think they are fraudulent or suspicious.

If you were born in Wyoming and need a certified copy of your birth certificate, you can get it from the Wyoming Department of Health's Vital Statistics Services for $13. If you were born in another state, you can find where to get a certified birth certificate by clicking here.
