I have to be honest, I've never been to a ceremony on Memorial Day. I've never laid flowers on a grave either. Basically, the traditional observance of Memorial Day is something I've never done. However there are two veterans who are always on my mind, my grandfathers.

They were both pilots for the Army Air Corps (now the Air Force) during World War II, one served in Europe and one served in the Pacific. Both of them have passed and when they were in the latter part of their lives they were both very proud of the service they were able to provide our country. They were both great heroes in my eyes and I hope I never lose looking up to them in that way. At the bottom of the page you can see the slideshow I made for one of their memorial services shortly after he died in 2007.

While both of my grandfather's were fortunate enough to come home and live long lives after their time in the military, they both lost many friends with whom they wanted to grow old with.

This Memorial Day, I honor them and thank them for the support and friendship they gave to my grandpas as well as the ultimate sacrifice they made. I'll be saying many prayers for them today and telling stories to my two young nieces throughout the day to be sure they are not forgotten.

Who are you honoring on this day when we remember those who have died in our nation's service?
