Cowboy basketball fans can relive a Mountain West Championship in the latest “Cowboy Capsule” on Wednesday night.

It’s the Mountain West regular-season clinching victory over Utah in 2002 from a packed Arena-Auditorium. The Pokes took down the Utes, 57-56, in front of a Double-A record 16,089 fans, a record that still stands to this day.

Wyoming utilized a 17-6 run in the second half in rallying past Utah. Marcus Bailey made two free throws that sealed the victory. Bailey led UW with 14 points, while Josh Davis added 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.

The Cowboys went on to the NCAA Tournament, where they upset Gonzaga in the first round before a loss to Arizona in the second round capped the 22-8 season.

Former guard Jay Straight will be available during the game on telecast on Wyoming Athletics’ Facebook page to share memories with fans. The coverage starts at 7 p.m.
