It’s back at home this week for the Wyoming Cowboys, as they open Mountain West Conference play against UNLV Saturday night.

The game is set to start at 6 p.m. from War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.

Wyoming (3-1) enters off its first loss of the season at Tulsa last week, 24-21.

UNLV (1-2) is coming off a bye week and hasn’t played since a 30-14 loss at Northwestern on Sept. 14.

Cowboys’ head coach Craig Bohl held his weekly press conference on Monday. As usual, coach reflected on the previous game then discussed his team and looked ahead to UNLV in the video above.

The biggest takeaway from the press conference is how beat up the Pokes got at Tulsa. Grad transfer running back Trey Smith is out 6-to-8 weeks with an ankle injury. Two offensive linemen are more than likely out for Saturday versus the Rebels. Junior right guard Logan Harris is in concussion protocol and won’t play, while junior right tackle Alonzo Velazquez is out with a right knee issue. Finally, senior cornerback Tyler Hall is in concussion protocol. Bohl is hoping Hall is back for Saturday, but that might be right up until game time.

UW is expecting senior defensive end Josiah Hall to play after missing the Tulsa game with an injury. As for senior corner Antonio Hull, he is listed on this week’s depth chart, but if he plays is still unknown. He returned to the team last week after dealing with what Coach Bohl said was a “personal issue,” and didn’t go into any details.

Redshirt freshman tackle Frank Crum is expected to start at right tackle for Velazquez. Sophomore Patrick Arnold will start for Harris at right guard. Sophomore Azizi Hearn will start his second straight game at cornerback, while freshman Jordan Murry could see more playing time.

With Smith out, and Xazavian Valladay and Titus Swen still hurting from injury, Wyoming is expected to get freshman Alphonzo Andrews Jr. ready for the No. 3 running back spot. If or how much Andrews plays depends on Valladay’s health.

Bohl also talked about the team’s sack total and pressure by the front seven but referenced too many big plays on the back end. He was asked about the risk and reward of blitzing and sometimes getting to the QB and sometimes not. Bohl said he’s liked how the linebackers have played.

The head coach did address the QB situation after pulling and re-inserting Sean Chambers at Tulsa. Bohl touched on some improvement in the passing game and more.

The Cowboys are 9.5-point favorites in the game versus UNLV. The two teams haven’t played since their epic three-overtime game in Las Vegas in 2016. That was won by the Rebels, 69-66.

This game is being dubbed a “White Out,” as fans are asked to wear white shirts to the game.

Kick-off is at 6 p.m. Listen to the game on KOWB (AM 1290) in Laramie or the KOWB app or in Casper on KTWO (AM 1030) or the K2Radio app.
