Volunteers are needed Monday, Jan. 17, to help restore the Laramie Plains Civic Center as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.

Projects for Monday will include setting up a recycling area for the Civic Center, working on cleaning and organizing the third floor, theatre, and locker room areas, and some painting.  The University of Wyoming Service, Leadership & Community Engagement Office is sponsoring the event.  Liz Malm and Kristen Owen are heading up the project for the University and have worked with Rebecca Toll at the Civic Center.  Malm says they have collaborated to "ensure we complete projects that are needed to get the building up and running as a true community space".

Things will get going at the Civic Center at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, with breakfast provided for volunteers prior to the service activities.  Lunch will also be provided.  Malm encourages people to stop by even if they can only stay for a short period of time.  The event will end around 4:00 p.m. so anyone who wants to can attend the MLK March at the Albany County Courthouse.

Anyone interested is encouraged to sign up online at www.uwyo.edu/slce/info.asp?p=28851 to make sure enough food is ordered for everyone.  Volunteers do not need to bring anything, but should wear clothes they don't mind getting dirt or possibly paint on.

Questions should be directed to Malm at emalm@uwyo.edu or by calling (307) 766-3117.
