A University of Wyoming-run clinic recently received a $175,700 grant to help increase mental health and substance abuse services.

The Albany County Community Health Clinic, a program in the UW College of Health Sciences, received the grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration for AIMS -or Access Increases in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services – funding.

The clinic, which was opened in April, is operated by UW and provides comprehensive health services to Albany County Residents, whether or not they can pay, UW says.

ACHC Program Director Dr. Katy Hartman said the AIMS funding will help expand the access to mental health services and substance abuse services that focus on treatment. The funding will allow the clinic to increase personnel and provide training to allow for the expansion of mental health and substance abuse services. One of the main focuses, Hartman said, will be on the treatment, prevention and awareness of opioid abuse.

“This is, in part, to address the overuse and misuse of prescription medications,” Hartman says in a statement.

The ACHC was made possible by a three-year grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the UW Health Sciences’ Educational Health Center of Wyoming. The grant allowed the EHCW to operate the only Federally Qualified Health Center in Laramie.

The clinic is located at 920 E. Sheridan St. Suite A and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays as well as 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each Tuesday.
