United States Senator John Barrasso will be in the Thermopolis area this Thursday evening. Barrasso will speak at the grand opening of the Legend Rock Historic Site Visitors Center. Also in attendance will be Starr Weed of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe of the Wind River Reservation, Carolyn Buff, Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources Commissioner and Bureau of Land Management archeologist Mike Bies. They will be discussing how important it is to preserve the Legend Rock Historic Site.

According to a release from the Wyoming State Archives, Legend Rock Superintendent Kevin Skates, the new visitor's center will educate guests on the practice and general understanding of ancient cultural practices. Kevin Skates stated:

"Well, I think the main thing is that rock art isn't very known to a lot of visitors so the purpose of the visitor's center is to help our guests get a better understanding of the petroglyphs plus we hope we can educate them on how we are trying to protect the site and how they can help."

The grand opening will take place at 6pm Thursday August 25th and teh public is invited to attend. The Legend Rock State Historic Site is 29 miles northeast of Thermopolis on Highway 120. For more information on the event contact Kevin Skates at 307-864-2176.
