Due to budget shortfalls the U.S. Postal Service is proposing to shut down nine post offices around the state of Wyoming.

Communities around Wyoming are being notified of the closures due to an $8.5 billion budget shortfall that the USPS encountered last year. Communities from across the state that will be affected by closings are Bairoil, Byron, Freedom, Little America and Meriden.

There will be other communities affected by closings but the proposal is on-going and the names of those communities will be released once they are notified of any closings. Time will be set aside for public comment on the issue. After public comment, an additional study based on the comments is to follow.

A final list of post office closings will be announced after the study is conducted. The study may take three months to complete.
