The following information was released by the Laramie Police Department (LPD) in regards to two men who have been arrested and face multiple felony charges.

Michael James Grooman of Laramie was arrested after an altercation which occurred at 3:30 A.M. on Sunday. A resident at 1171 West Baker reported a man armed with a shotgun had kicked in their door. Grooman confronted the resident with the shotgun and threatened to kill him if the location of mutual friends was not revealed.

The resident managed to escape unharmed and asked a neighbor for assistance. As officers approached the property they saw Grooman exiting the trailer and enter his vehicle. Officers made the arrest after a short pursuit that ended with Grooman crashing his vehicle. The shotgun involved in the incident was recovered by officers.

Michael James Grooman faces felony charges of Aggravated Burglary, Felonious Restraint, Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon, Possession of a Deadly Weapon with Unlawful Intent, and Aggravated Assault. The variety of felony charges are punishable by a range of imprisonment of not more than three years on Felon in Possession of Firearm, to five years nor more than twenty five years, a fine of $50,000 or both for Aggravated Burglary. On top of these charges are numerous misdemeanor charges. The investigation is continuing.

In a separate case, LPD officers arrested 18 year old Corwin Bernard on Wednesday, January 19th. Officers arrested Bernard for Third-Degree Arson after an incident that occurred on the 1000 block of North 18th Street on January 8th.

Corwin Bernard was arrested during the investigation of a recent string of burglaries, vandalism, and fires which occurred in the Laramie area within the last five weeks. Two males were also identified in connection to the crimes. Forty two crimes were solved during the investigation which included:

  • 2 arson
  • 1 stolen car
  • 3 auto burglaries
  • 32 vehicles vandalized
  • 1 business vandalized
  • 3 residences vandalized

Preliminary damages estimates are approximately $16,000. Additional investigations are still pending.
