The Wyoming Cowgirls lost their portion of the Border War Wednesday night in Laramie to Colorado State. The final score was 58-55.

Wyoming (6-7, 1-2) trailed by 19 points in the first half, but rallied and had a chance to force overtime. The Cowgirls had the ball with 28 seconds left, but failed to get a shot off.

Cowgirl head coach Joe Legerski said, "Down three with 26 seconds to go, we had the play we talked about, but not everyone was on the same page and didn't get a shot off. That is about as disappointing as anything."

Colorado State (10-4, 2-1) came out on fire and built a 31-14 lead. UW chipped away and went into half down, 39-29.

The Cowgirls closed within one, at 51-50, on a layup from Kayla Woodward off a lob from Kaitlyn Mileto. CSU responded and pulled ahead 57-50 with just over a minute left. Free throws by Marquelle Dent and Mileto got UW back with 57-55, but the final possession was an empty one.

Dent led UW with 19 points, Mileto had 13 and Woodward added ten points and ten rebounds. The Cowgirls shot only 27.5 percent from the field.

The Rams were led by Elin Gustavsson with 11 points. Five other players finished with eight or nine points.

Legerski added, "To be down 19 points, we had to reach down and battle back... the team fought to the end, but we still have a great deal of work to do."

Wyoming goes on the road Saturday to face Boise State at 2 p.m.
