With rifle deer and elk seasons opening on October 1, hunters are advised that temporary closures are in effect on Medicine Bow National Forest Roads 553 (north of the community of Lake Creek to Muddy Park) and 588 (east of the community of Lake Creek).
The U.S. Forest Service has announced that Laramie Peak Trail will be periodically closed over the next two weeks as the Wyoming State Trail Crew does some necessary safety upgrades and trail maintenance.
The year was 2012. The fire began on June 30, it was contained on July 9th and was officially called "out" in mid-December. By the time it was all said and done, the Squirrel Creek Fire had burned nearly 11,000 acres of land approximately 30 miles southwest of Laramie.
With the onset of another snow storm in the state, it was signs of spring that put a stop to a prescribed burn that was only partially completed on the Sierra Madre range this week.
For the last two years the Medicine Bow National Forest has partnered with the Montana Conservation Corps to provide seasonal land conservation jobs for United States Military Veterans.
