The Laramie High School softball teams clinched their spot at the state tournament last Saturday with a dramatic win over Cheyenne Central, 15-11. After Wheatland lost to Thunder Basin, LHS started planning for their first game in Gillette at the 2024 state championships. Now, Laramie looks to make some noise this weekend.

LARAMIE HIGH SCHOOL STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT PREVIEW 2024

Laramie finished the regular season 10-15 overall and 5-7 in the East Conference. They are the No. 4 seed and will draw West Conference champion Cody in the first round at the state tournament. The Fillies went 16-6 this season and 9-1 in their conference.

KOWB's David Settle caught up with seniors Marisol Gomez and Paige Kuhn at practice on Tuesday to preview the state tournament. Watch what the players had to say about qualifying for state, taking momentum into the game, and playing Cody in the first round in the video at the top of the story.

Laramie head coach Luke Andrews says they must treat this weekend like everyone has a 0-0 record.

"It's an exciting feeling. Everybody's on the same playing field right now. We've tried to reiterate that to the team. Everybody's got the same shot."

The last time LHS played Cody in softball was in the first round at the state tournament two years ago. The Lady Plainsmen won that game 14-1. What about this match-up?

Andrews says, "They're the No. 1 seed for a reason. We know they have all the tools on that team, and we're going to have to play our best game, and if we do, we have just as good of a shot at winning as anybody."

The first-round game is at 4 p.m. on Field No. 1 at the Energy Capital Sports Complex in Gillette on Thursday. The winner will face the winner of Thunder Basin-Natrona County in the second round on Friday at 10 a.m. The losers of the same two games will play an elimination game at noon on Friday.
