Slain Virginia Tech Officer Identified

The officer killed on the campus of Virginia Tech today has been identified as Deriek W. Crouse, 39, of Christiansburg, Virginia.

Crouse was killed during a traffic stop on campus shortly after noon eastern.

He is survived by his wife, five children and step-children, brother and mother.

Crouse joined the Virginia Tech Police Department in October of 2007.  He is an Army veteran and formerly served with the New River Valley Jail and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

In April of 2007, the deadliest school shooting in American history occurred on the campus of Virginia Tech.
