UNDATED (AP) — Justin Upton had quite a game in his return to Arizona while leading Atlanta's offense in a 10-1 pounding of the Diamondbacks.

Upton snapped a 14-game homerless streak by smacking his major league-leading 13th of the season. He also went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored in his first game at Phoenix since being traded by the Diamondbacks last winter.

Brian McCann and Chris Johnson each homered and had three RBIs to help the Braves end a three-game losing streak.

Also in the majors, The St. Louis Cardinals made it 10 wins in their last 12 games by stringing together a three-run seventh in a 6-3 win over the New York Mets. The game was tied 3-3 until Matt Carpenter hit an RBI single and scored on Matt Molliday's two-run homer. Carpenter had two hits and two RBIs for the Redbirds, who own the National League's best record at 24-13.

Travis Wood pitched seven scoreless innings and Alfonso Soriano homered in the Chicago Cubs' 9-1 rout of Colorado. The Cubs were within two outs of their first shutout since last August until Josh Rutledge homered off Carlos Marmol.

Rookie Aaron Hicks homered twice and made a leaping catch in center field as Minnesota ripped the Chicago White Sox 10-3. Justin Morneau extended his hitting streak to nine games with three hits and four RBIs, including a bases-clearing double that capped the scoring in the eighth.

Kansas City crushed the Los Angeles Angels 11-4 as Billy Butler went 5-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Lorenzo Cain and Salvador Perez each added three hits and two RBIs for the Royals, who scored in six of the first seven innings.

Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EH'-nehs SEHS'-peh-dehs) and Brandon Moss hit back-to-back homers in the third inning of Oakland's 5-1 win over Texas. A.J. Griffin matched his season high with eight strikeouts and held the Rangers to a run and six hits in seven innings.

Jordan Zimmermann is the majors' first seven-game winner after holding the Dodgers to two runs and nine hits in 7 2/3 innings of Washington's 6-2 win at Los Angeles. Ryan Zimmerman drove in three runs and Adam LaRoche had two RBIs as the Nationals ended a two-game skid.

The New York Yankees split a doubleheader with the Indians at Cleveland. Justin Masterson tossed his second shutout of the season in the opener, allowed just four hits and striking out nine in the Indians' 1-0 victory over the Yanks. Jason Kipnis socked a first-inning homer to help Masterson pick up his sixth win. The Yankees had the better pitching in the nightcap as Vidal Nuno (NOON'-yoh) and Adam Warren combined on a five-hitter to beat Cleveland 7-0. Vernon Wells and Lyle Overbay each drove in two runs to support Nuno, who scattered three hits over five innings in his first major league start.

Andy Dirks launched his first career grand slam as part of a six-run fourth that carried Detroit past Houston 7-2, giving the Tigers a half-game lead over the Indians in the AL Central. Victor Martinez also homered and Anibal (AH'-nih-bahl) Sanchez limited the Astros to two runs and six hits in seven innings.

Milwaukee's four-game skid is over after Marco Estrada allowed three hits over seven innings of the Brewers' 5-1 triumph at Pittsburgh. Norichika Aoki (nohr-ah-CHEE'-kah ah-OH'-kee) went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two stolen bases, while Jean Segura added three hits and three steals.

UNDATED (AP) — Slugging first baseman Anthony Rizzo and the Chicago Cubs agreed to a $41 million, seven-year contract that could be worth up to $68 million over nine seasons.

The 23-year-old Rizzo is considered one of the centerpieces of the Cubs' rebuilding efforts. He is hitting .280 with a .352 on-base percentage, nine home runs and 28 RBIs in his third major league season.

It was a tough night for the Houston Astros, who had their ace pitcher and top hitter leave Monday's game at Detroit due to injuries.

Right-hander Bud Norris left his start against the Detroit Tigers with an back spasms after five innings and 71 pitches. The Astros also lost standout second baseman Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) to a jaw injury earlier in the game.

In other baseball news:

— Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper left Monday's game in the fifth inning after running full-speed into the scoreboard in right field at Dodger Stadium. Harper rolled onto his back and eventually got up under his own power. Streaks of blood were evident on his neck as he walked off the field.

— The New York Mets signed outfielder Rick Ankiel (an-KEEL') and started him in center field against the St. Louis Cardinals tonight. Ankiel was designated for assignment last week by the Houston Astros, where he hit .194 with five homers and 11 RBIs.

— The Cleveland Indians have optioned struggling third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall to Triple-A Columbus and brought up left-hander David Huff from the minors. Chisenhall was hitting just .213 with three home runs and 11 RBIs.

— Detroit center fielder Austin Jackson has been put on the 15-day disabled list because of a pulled right hamstring. The Tigers recalled outfielder Avisail Garcia from Triple-A Toledo.

— George Postolos has resigned as president and CEO of the Houston Astros after a year and a half on the job. He's returning to sports consulting work.
