Almost two decades have passed since the state of Wyoming has held any sort of horse racing event. The Sweetwater County Events Complex will be home to the exciting races this Saturday and Sunday. Workers have been replacing railings and preparing the track and are now ready for the races!

Last month horse racing plans were approved by state regulators but talks about horse racing in Wyoming have been ongoing for quite some time. Eugene Joyce, the son of a former owner of Wyoming Downs in Evanston has been spearheading the racing operations.

The races this weekend will include both quarter horses and thoroughbreds. After this weekend the next round of races will not be held until Labor Day weekend. The gap in between races is to give quarter horses a two week break from racing.
