Rock Springs Man Drowns in Flaming Gorge Reservoir

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) — A Rock Springs man has drowned after swimming into Flaming Gorge Reservoir to try to retrieve a boat that blew away from shore.

The Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office and county coroner identified the victim as 49-year-old Mitch Hunt.

He was boating with another person on Sunday when they decided to go ashore at Sage Creek, south of Firehole Canyon. Wind pushed the boat from the shore. Hunt tried to swim after it but began struggling in the water.

Several people tried to help Hunt but were unable to locate him. A helicopter crew eventually saw Hunt's body underwater but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
