Public Meetings for Pole Mountain Motorized Travel

The public is invited to attend a second series of meetings to be held in Laramie and Cheyenne next week regarding motorized travel on the Pole Mountain Unit.

The Laramie Ranger District and the University of Wyoming Ruckelshaus Institute are hosting two meetings in identical formats next week: Tuesday, September 8^th at the Laramie County Library in Cheyenne from 6-8 p.m., and Thursday, September 10^th, in the South Gym of the Laramie Plains Civic Center in Laramie, also from 6-8 p.m.

The Ruckelshaus Institute compiled public comments submitted through e-mail and social media, public meetings in July, and via the Pole Mountain Roads website in order to present the comments to the United States Forest Service in an organized format.  The Forest Service has also completed an assessment of all roads at Pole Mountain.

This second set of meetings will see the USFS present management options for the area based on what they learned over the summer.  Members of the public will have opportunities to respond to the proposed solutions, ask questions, and share their own idea.

According to the Forest Service, the idea is to adapt the management of Pole Mountain in order to minimize user conflicts on the area’s roads and negative impacts on natural resources, as well as provide safe, sustainable access to and through the National Forest.
