The Fort Collins Police Department is warning people about a new scam in which con artists are getting personal information and photos from victims using the lure of fake ID cards.

While the warning was issued by the Fort Collins Police, the scam could be used anywhere in the United States. According to the video warning put out by the FCPD, the information is being used by offshore fake identification card makers.

The scammers often set up websites offering to make fake IDs to fool victims into giving up their personal info.

While they will send victims the promised fake ID in many cases, the information gathered, including the victim's photo, can then be used to open fake accounts and make purchases, incurring large bills for the victims and potentially ruining their credit.
