Fraudulent automated phone calls claiming to be from the Wyoming Secretary of State’s office have triggered a consumer warning from officials there. The phone calls lead the recipient to believe the Secretary of State’s office released information regarding their auto insurance, which makes them eligible for changes to their policy.

Secretary of State, Max Maxfield says, no such action is coming from his offices. “My office does not have any information about consumers and we certainly do not endorse any particular type of auto insurance.”

Maxfield says the phone number for the call “appears” to originate from a 307 area code.

Secretary Maxfield urges individuals to be cautious when receiving phone solicitations. Never give out personal information over the telephone unless you can verify who’s on the other end of the line.
