Additional crews have joined efforts in combating the Pedro Mountain Fire, which is listed at 16,590 acres and 27% contained as of Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, four hotshot crews executed a "large and successful" burn operation, according to an InciWeb release. Crews were able to reduce vegetation in the fire's path providing extra protection to homes and property in the area.

According to the release, officials will begin working with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office to allow residents access to their homes and property in a "timely manner" as soon as it's safe to do so.

Sunday, some firefighters will be routed to the fire's northeast corner near Rocky Gap.

Evacuations remain in effect for Pedro Mountain Estates, Pedro Mountain Ranch Road and Cardwell Ranch.

Natrona County Road 407/Carbon County Road 291 (Kortes Road) is closed from the intersection of Natrona County Road 408 (Fremont Canyon) south to Leo/Sage Creek until further notice.

A red flag warning is in effect Sunday.

Currently, there are six hotshot crews, 35 engines, seven water tenders, three bulldozers, three initial attack crews and 12 aerial resources on the fire.

A lightning strike ignited the fire, which is burning east of Pathfinder Reservoir in Carbon County, August 24.
