Wyoming Highway Patrol's newest K-9 team has hit the highways. Trooper Dave Chatfield with the Wyoming Highway Patrol has recently started working with his new K-9 partner, Robbie.

Robbie, a Springer Spaniel, traveled a long distance to come to Wyoming. The pooch is originally from Ireland. He went on to get his initial training with the company Battle Born K9 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Trooper Chatfield and Robbie have trained together since July 21 and have received certification to work the highways as a team. Robbie is a drug detection only K-9 and is trained to detect a variety of controlled substances.

The duo will primarily work in the Elk Mountain area and will have statewide deployments all year. The team is available for all local law enforcement agencies at their request.

Trooper Chatfield is a 20 year veteran of the Patrol and has nine years of K-9 experience. His last partner was also a K-9 named Todd from 2000 until 2009. Trooper Chatfield and Robbie mark the eighth K-9 team in the state for the Wyoming Highway Patrol. A ninth team is expected in November.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol K-9 program is partially funded through a federal grant as well as by seized assets.
