New Interim Dean For Engineering and Applied Sciences
University of Wyoming Professor Al Rodi will fill the interim dean position for UW’s College of Engineering and Applied Science. The search for a new dean continues to move forward.
Rodi assumes the position Thursday, July 3. He replaces Khaled Gasem who moves to the engineering faculty after his time in the interim position completed on June 30.
“We appreciate the work Dr. Gasem has done to move the college forward, and we’re happy Professor Rodi has stepped up to provide interim leadership while the dean search advances,” says UW President Dick McGinity “There is great excitement about the efforts that are underway to raise the profile of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, and strong leadership is a key to make that happen.”
Rodi received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in geophyscical science from the University of Chicago. He first arrived at UW in 1977 and obtained his Ph.D. in atmospheric science. He joined the faculty of the Department of Atmospheric Science in 1981. Rodi was promoted to assistant professor in 1988 and full professor in 1993.
Rodi currently teaches graduate coursed in physical meterology, instrumentation and research ethics, and has served as a mentor for masters and doctoral students. He became director of the University’s Flight Center in 1998 and has been head of the Department of Atmospheric Science since that year.
McGinity leads the search for a new dean, assisted by the executive search firm Korn Ferry. According to McGinity, a search committee has been selected and will soon move forward to review candidates. A new dean should be identified by the end of the fall semester. The committee includes UW faculty and staff along with people from outside the university.
