UNDATED (AP) — On NHL ice, the New York Rangers had been one of the more offensively challenged teams in the early going. But the Blueshirts erupted against Pittsburgh, tying their season high in goals in routing the Penguins 5-1.

Brian Boyle scored his first goal of the season and Ryan Callahan added his first since returning from a broken thumb

Pittsburgh had won four straight and defeated New York eight times in nine meetings. But Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan scored 1:05 apart late in the first period to send the Rangers to their fourth win in five games.

In other hockey action:

__ Nashville handed the Colorado Avalanche just their second loss in 14 games, 6-4. That ended the Avs' six-game winning streak. Colin Wilson had two goals and two assists. Viktor Stalberg added a goal and an assist.

__ Defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago routed Winnipeg 4-1. Patrick Kane scored his ninth goal of the season and Jonathan Toews (tayvz) notched his eighth.

__ Anaheim routed Phoenix 5-2. Corey Perry netted his 10th goal for the Ducks. Ryan Getzlaf added his seventh of the season.
