Mural Project Backed By Community
If you have been in downtown Laramie lately, you're sure to have noticed it's slightly more colorful.
The Laramie Mural Project is behind the artwork, replacing empty and drab walls with beautiful landscapes.
Backers of the project recently got behind the project's fund raising goal of $15,000 this summer. An online campaign has helped exceed that goal by nearly $1,000 so far.
It's not just local residents that are enjoying the murals either. Kansas City resident Dean Sharpe said "the murals really bring life to the town. I've enjoyed checking them out and seeing what Laramie has to offer." Sharpe is on a family vacation through I-80 to California and had stopped in Laramie for lunch Thursday.
You can currently see two new masterpieces in construction. Artist Travis Ivey is working on Kearney Street between 2nd and 3rd Street. Ivey has named his mural (pictured) "Crossing Sherman Hill." He described it as a panoramic view of the Laramie Range during the Big Boy steam engine era.
Meghan Meier has begun work on "Grainery Grove II" on Ivinson Street beween 1st and 2nd Street. The mural is an extension of her well known aspen tree mural that she completed last year.
The community is encouraged to watch the artistic process while they work for the next few days. Come and enjoy colorful, downtown Laramie!
