RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — A resurgence of flooding in central and southwest Wyoming has shut down a major highway in Fremont County and flooded mostly farm and ranch land.

Heavy rain over the weekend sent some rivers already swollen with snowmelt runoff out of their banks.

A 15-mile section of U.S. 26 west of Riverton is closed between the U.S. 287 junction and Kinnear because of water flowing over the roadway. Nearby Wyoming 133 and 134 also are closed.

Forecasters say the Wind River at Riverton is expected to crest at about 12 feet Monday and then slowly recede but remain above flood stage through the week. Flood stage is 9 feet.

The Little Wind River at Fort Washakie and near Riverton was cresting Monday and is expected to slowly fall.
